In The Style Of ...

  1. Duane Michals:

  2. One of the great photographic innovators, widely known for his work with series, multiple exposures, and text. He's also known for his frame-by-frame format and his incorporation of text in his works. He received a BA from the University of Denver in 1953 and worked as a graphic designer until starting photography in the late 1950s.

  3. I like the style of his photography and the way he tells a story using double exposure and black and white. I also really like how he incorporates written letters in his photographs because it makes the photo feel more important and personalized.

  4. For Duane's photograph of "Illuminated Man". He wrote that he posed a friend in a tunnel where he positioned him to where his head was directly in the sun from above. He then calculated a long exposure to capture the texture of the wall in the background and the subject would become overexposed. The outcome was vivid, full of contrast, and very ghostly.

  5. Value because he usually shoots in black and white. Shape, with the framing and objects he uses throughout his photos, and emphasis because it could be a simple background but he always has an interesting subject to give the photo a story or a meaning.

  6. I think I did him justice because I feel like I captured his style by doing a black and white double exposure; while also adding in one of his own quotes that gives it that personalized feel that his photographs have. I also feel like I captured the right vibe and story that some of his photos give off.
